The Streamseal or Allis Chalmers Butterfly Valve can be refurbished to function and appear as “new.” Before any work is performed, the valve is photographed and condition documented. If possible, a leakage and operational test is performed to create a start condition datum. The Streamseal or Allis Chalmers Butterfly Valve shall be disassembled and parts cleaned. The packing gland and packing material is removed. The body bushings shall also be inspected and evaluated. The disc and body shall be blast cleaned to near white metal and inspected for cracks and other damage. The operating shaft shall be inspected for excessive wear or other defects. If required or necessary the new operating shaft shall be stainless steel with a minimum yield strength of 125,000 psi. Other specially specified materials such as A564-630 stainless steel will be used when required. Thrust collars or thrust mechanism assemblies (depending on style of valve) will be inspected and replaced as necessary with A584 CA 93200 Bronze. The interior of the valve will be painted with two coats of high solids epoxy suitable for potable water. The exterior of the valve and other components will be painted with two coats of high solids epoxy. The Streamseal or Allis Chalmers Butterfly Valve shall be reassembled with new packing material and hydro-tested to service standards. When required, new certified drawings will be provided for approval/records.
